Applying to the Microbial Friends & Foes  Research for Undergraduates (REU) program

Applying to the Microbial Friends & Foes REU program is a two step process. It requires: (i) submitting an application package, and (ii) requesting two letters of recommendation to be submitted on your behalf. Acceptance notifications will be issued by March 5, 2016.

Application package

  1. Assemble the following items:
    1. Identify three PPPMB faculty mentors who you could potentially work with if accepted.
    2. Prepare a personal statement describing your research interests, relevant coursework, prior research experience, and how participation in the Microbial Friends & Foes REU program fits into your future academic and professional plans (1000 words).
    3. Obtain a copy of your academic transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable)."
       
  2. Submit your application materials via a web portal. The application package must be received no later than January 20, 2016. Materials received after the deadline will not be considered. The web portal will open on October 31, 2015.

Letters of recommendation

Identify two professors or other individuals who can comment on your aptitude for participating in the Microbial Friends & Foes REU program and ask each of them to write a letter of recommendation for you and submit it through a web portal. The web portal will open on October 31, 2015.

Waiver of Inspection

Under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, I herby waive my right to inspect the letter of recommendation given by my referee with the understanding that it will be only used for purposes of consideration for the Microbial Friends & Foes Research Experience for Undergraduates Program.
